Safari Support

By: Bryan Byrne, Product Team Lead | February 9, 2006

We’ve had a number of our users ask why we are not currently supporting the Safari browser on OS X. Basically we are using some JavaScript features that Safari doesn’t currently support. As an Apple user I thought those of you using Safari would find this post informative.

Please try using our site with Firefox (it’s free and is a great browser) and hopefully we’ll have Safari support in the near future. Enjoy your time on Zillow.com and let us know if you encounter any problems.

Additional info for the tech heads among you:
Here’s a link to a useful FAQ posted by Apple, the key sentence to look for is “XSLT not available via JavaScript for application to arbitrary XML in an HTML page.”

Wow, is this Beta site a mess.
Nothing worked at all and I read
    that thousands of e-mails have
    been received, they certainly
didn’t click on the feedback tab
    because that goes nowhere.
Where this e-mail will go, who knows but I am sending the message
    in the bottle anyway.
    Not one home address worked.
    It basically doesn’t do anything.

I searched 5 addresses and one was way over valued but in a couple of rural areas I was suprised the home came up. Give these guys some time and I bet they make this huge.

I’d love to make sure that Safari is supported by zillow. Specifically, what are the JS functions that are unsupported?

I can be reached at Apple via http://developer.apple.com/internet/safari/contact.html

Pleae contact me so we can make zillow rock in Safari!

    Cheers,

    -Mark

I mistakenly remembered your site as zwillow.check it out and see all the imposters!you should post there advising newbies not to be tricked into giving all thr info requested by these imposters.

If you are using a Mac and want to view zillow, Camino just released version 1.0 the other day it is much better than firefox on OSX. This is my advise, it works great, until zillow.com will work on Safari.

I own a real estate company (you can see it at ProfessionalOne.com). I have been selling real estate for 15 years. I am also a CPA, so numbers “are my thing.” I am HORRIFIED at how inaccurate your information is. My home, for instance, is worth approximately $450,000 to $500,000. Your site shows it as being worth $157,000! I put an addition on my home several years ago that cost more than your estimate of the entire value of the home! If this doesn’t get your attention, then you are flat out negligent. Most of my agents have checked out the values of their homes on your site, and 100% of them have indicated that your estimates are not ever close! This spans seven different communities located in three different counties. One has a home worth approximately $270,000 - your site estimates the value at $117,000! This error percentage is OUTRAGEOUS!!! I’ve also had several unpleasant encounters with clients of mine that are ASSUMING your site is accurate. I would suggest you do some MAJOR site enhacements ASAP, because the uproar that is building within my industry is like nothing I’ve ever seen or felt before.

I run a MAC and made the switch to Firefox a long time ago. It’s just better at everything IMO.

THIS INFORMATION ON THE PROPERTY THAT YOU VALUED FOR ME WAS COMPLETELY WRONG. ALL THE INFORMATION THAT YOU HAVE NEEDS TO BE UPDATED FROM YEARS AGO.THE VALUE AFTER PUTTING IN THE CORRECT INFORMATION IS EXACTLY WHAT I HAVE VALUED MY HOME.($279,850) AND NOT WHAT YOU SHOW AS $180,000, YOU ARE OFF BY $100,000

I have browsed a lot of links and used features of the site using firefox. And everything seems to be working great. I found nothing wrong (broken links, rendering and alll the oter stuff etc..) when browsing zillow using firefox.

I agree with Michael McClure above. I can’t tell you how many times I have a client come to me thinking the home value your site produced is accurate. There is no way a computer automated system can spit out a value and have be accurate. Especially in todays market where values are dropping every month. You need to keep up with the times or don’t report such a tool as being accurate. Be reliable!
