Today’s Wiki Wednesday Feature: Owner-Builders
As I scanned the real estate wiki repository, scoping out the latest and most interesting additions to the wiki, I stumbled upon a page titled "Owners-Builders." Hmmm, I wondered — what’s that? Lo and behold, it’s a page that lists the pros and cons of building your own home. Now, the idea of building your own home can either be an exciting proposition — right up there with bungee jumping, skydiving and extreme skiing — or one of the stupidest ideas you could ever imagine. If you fall into the former camp — or are at least game to it — you can probably save a bundle of money by serving as your own general contractor.
I’m sure it would help if you had an aptitude for construction, know how to project manage and have a tolerance for high-risk. Me? I think the idea of building my own house would be the closest thing to hell on earth. Noooo, thanks! But hey — look at all these people who have an interest in designing and building their own home. And, yup, I see some that list skydiving, extreme skiing and bungee jumping as their other desires.
I’m not saying there’s a connection here between insanity and building your own home, but I’m just saying…
