We’re listening
By: Jorrit Van der Meulen, VP, Partner Relations | January 10, 2008 |
Since we launched the Zillow Listings Feeds program last November, we’ve heard our broker partners talk about the complexity (and cost) of managing multiple feed types for multiple partners. We listened. And so, we’re pleased to let you know that extending your listings online to multiple locations at once is about to get a whole lot easier.
As you may have seen, earlier today we announced that we are joining with Yahoo! Real Estate, Trulia and a handful of other real estate sites to adopt a common data format to distribute listings online. You can read the official release here. This is an important first step and we expect others to join in this effort to simplify the process even further. We’ve already discussed our effort with the folks at Real Estate Transaction Standard (RETS) who have developed the way real estate listings data is transported to, by and between MLSs and will work to make sure our new specification will interoperate with RETS.
If you’ve already joined our Listings Feeds program or are getting ready to, don’t worry. We will continue to support Zillow Listings Feeds specifications in addition to the new one. We’ll keep you posted on developments here. We expect to introduce this – along with the name of the common format – later this year.
One final point on the importance of getting your listings distributed through Zillow – as you probably saw earlier, we also announced we have expanded our database of homes and Zestimates and improved our accuracy by 12 percent. A great addition to our accuracy is the fact we’ve enabled agent- and owner- edited facts to be incorporated into our algorithm. Since the data you provide in your feeds is occasionally different, or more complete, than what we receive from the counties, we will be using your listings data to update our database and calculate the Zestimate for your listing, which will improve overall accuracy.
Finally, we revamped our Zestimate and accuracy page to provide even greater transparency to consumers who use Zillow. To see how accurate Zestimates are in your market, visit our data and accuracy pages and take a look at our reports.

You have our house listed with 1,355 SQFT which is incorrect. Our house, located at 14702 Meadow Rd., Lynnwood, Wa 98087 is a split level with 2086 SQFT, 2.5 Bathrooms.I would appreciate if you could correct this on your web site as we will be placing our home for sale in February of this year.
Thank you

That’s probably because the public records for your home are incorrect. It’s easily rectified on Zillow; just claim your home and post corrected facts about your home. Within a week or so your home’s Zestimate should reflect those changes if our algorithm detects that the updates should measurably impact the valuation.
Is Zillow still functioning?
Tried for 24 hours to get on the website and received a message suggestioning Zillow is a victim of the real estate market collapse.
Good Morning! I was just checking your mapping feature and it shows our home in the middle of a field, approximately 2.5 road miles from it’s actual location. Please update your mapping service.
Thanks!
Alex
I just hope that that does not affect Zillow for too long, as potential clients will start leaving in their droves if the info obtained is incorrect.
