Track Your Net Worth

Just like many people track their stocks, Zillow allows you to track the value of your home over time. A savvy developer who is working with our API, Rick Morrison, has taken a person’s "Net Worth" one step further by creating a cool application that combines tracking your home’s value (via the Zillow API) with your stock portfolio (via Yahoo Finance). He mentioned it on his blog yesterday. Once you set up an account, you can even display a selection of banners (shown below) on your Web site that displays one of three things: how much your net worth has changed in the past week, your current net worth, and the percentage change of your net worth over the past week. Depending on the privacy settings you select, some banners may or may not be available.

Very nice. At least for putting all the info in one place. I don’t think I’m the sort of guy to put a banner with my net worth public on the web. Maybe just next to my alarm clock so I have more reason to go to work in the morning…

A question for the Zillowers: Everyone here is talking about how prices are going down in my area, but my Zestimate keeps going up. Is it something about the algorithm (ie.e., listings are dropping in price, but most of the sales are still high) or is this real? If it’s real, I’d certainly be happy…

I agree- putting a banner with your net worth on the web does not appeal to everyone.

What area of the country do you live in?

This would be kind of fun if the zestimate for my home in anyway resembled the actual value.
