Top Viewed For Sale Postings on Zillow

True confession—I’m a dreamer. I fantasize about everything from my post-college dream job, to the names and birth order of my hypothetical children… even what I want to eat for dinner! My subconscious pipe dreams have escalated to a new level during my summer internship at Zillow. Many a day while browsing the site I stumble across a fabulous home for sale. Within seconds I’ve crafted an elaborate storyboard about the home, its current residents, and what my life would look like if I l was lucky enough to live there.
For you lateral thinkers not tracking with my abstract mind game, here’s how an average thought progresses: One quick click on the #1 home in Cottonwood, AZ and I’m sporting a 2 piece velour sweatsuit, power-walking the neighborhood with the girls. An innocent glance at the Bothell, WA listing and suddenly I’m an expert gardener with prize winning dahlias. Fast forward 20 years and I’m living in Los Angeles, CA hosting a TGIF movie marathon for the neighborhood crew in my deluxe media room.
It’s a dangerous cycle!
Just because I’m a young and idealistic college student doesn’t mean I’m the only one eligible to play this game. Regardless of your age and finances, indulge yourself in a quick real estate daydream. It’s fun, free and a great way to spend an afternoon.

Zillow needs to do a better job of the most basic and verifiable fact-checking. I have owned my house for the last three years but a wholly false, incorrect and misleading “sale history” on zillow.com claims that someone else owns my house and supposedly bought it for less than I paid. This is materially damaging me at the worst possible time since I just put my house on the market. I am considering a lawsuit since my emails have gone unreturned. Public records and the simple truth are on my side, I have no idea where this fraudulent/factually grossly incorrect info came from, but claiming my house sold for $280k in 2006 when it has in fact provably been under my sole ownership since 2004 (when I bought it for $305k, before putting many tens of thousands of dollars into the property) is harmful, misleading, wrong, and actionable. I’m outraged and frustrated to no end. Where does zillow get off publishing bad data like this?? I’m being harmed, I’m in the right, and I’m mad as hell that this site doesn’t give me a way to correct this malfeasance. Hiding behind 3rd-party “data providers” is inexcusable. Public records show I own my house; your worse-than-useless site is publishing verifiably false information to the contrary, this is damaging and mind-boggling. Fix it, now.

It’s criminal that you have time to sit around writing frivolous blogs, but not enough time to answer consumer’s emails. You cannot put up information online (that will materially harm us) without being absolutely sure of your facts. And please don’t even try to hide behind the sham of a “third party provider”. It’s your site, you put the information up. If it’s incorrect, sue your “third party provider” for scamming you.

Chris-
I apologize for the incorrect information. Please e-mail me your address and I’ll investigate your specific home. drewm at zillow (dot) com
Deep kumar-
All information comes from county records. But yes, there are the occasional typos that result from manual data entry (both on the counties’ end and our data providers). We will be using owner edited facts in the Zestimate formula later this year to help account for this fact, but until then, I’d recommend taking updating your home facts and looking at My Estimator, which you can make either public or private - http://www.zillow.com/howto/MyZestimator.htm
In the future, please use Zillow Discussions to post your questions - http://www.zillow.com/forum/site/ViewCategory.htm?tcid=10

You have incorrect sales history on my property and that of a friend. Where are you really getting this information? It makes me question the accuracy of your estimates or at least the people you employ. I noticed other folks have also had the same experience.
