Top Viewed For Sale Postings on Zillow

By: Whitney Tyner, PR Coordinator | July 12, 2007

Move over QVC, Zillow is making the home shopping experience more personal than ever. With this week’s addition of Neighborhood Pages, you have access to the juicy neighborhood scoop before shaking hands with the know-it-all next door. But before making a move to purchase any of these most viewed homes, be sure to check out the demographics of your soon-to-be new neighbors.

For example, wouldn’t you like to know that 20% of Duvall, WA residents have kids ages 0-9…MOPS play group anyone? For those single folks interested in moving to San Diego, use the Zillow neighborhood discussion forums to meet up with the other people currently driving to work alone in the Mira Mesa neighborhood. Seriously, carpooling is cooler than ever and is a great way to land a first date (afterall, 40% of residents are single)!

If you’re currently living in Tappan, NY or Riverview, FL, I encourage you to jump into the conversation about your home town. Do you run into friends at the local market? What local co-ed soccer league has a winning record? Which Starbucks has the best comfy chairs? It’s your honest commentary on these pages will help give potential buyers a better sense of the area, and attract home buyers more likely to mesh with your neighborhoods unique personality.

On Sunday July 15th I put my house on the Real Estate site and I do not know how to find it now. I have looked everywhere and can not access the houses for sale. I uploaded 6 pictures that are not on the site. Please tell me how to find the information I put on there. I didn’t get an opportunity to view it before it went public. And if it is public I sure can’t find it. Thanks

    NOTE to My Attorney:
I am requesting that you please take immediate legal action against the web company Zillow.com for damages against me in the sale of my home.
Please note that the data in zillow.com for my home (sq. ft., no. of baths, and the associated estimate) in Zillow.com is incorrect.
After discovering this error, I have contacted the website.
Despite having provided online corrections to the info, no corrections have been made.
Zillow.com claims that its info is from public records.
However, the info provided by zillow.com does not correspond with any public records since I purchased my home new in 1994.
This incorrect info has prevented the sale of my home and is continuing to injure me by dragging down the estimate of my home value compared to other homes in my neighborhood for sale.
If zillow.com is going to provide this info to the public—-THEY HAVE AN OBLIGATION TO ALSO PROVIDE THE FACTS ACCURATELY.

Note to attorney from longtime litigation paralegal:
Please take a hard look at the above person’s letter. It does not seem appropriate that Mr/Ms Ruffin should be required to defend against inaccurate information, or affirmatively provide facts contrary to a Zillow estimate of value as if the Zestimate was a correct starting point.
Naturally Zillow has the right to engage in any lawful activity — along with the right to be sued for damages if it has injured homeowners such as Mr/Ms Ruffin through an intentional or accidental dissemination of inaccurate or misleading information.
I think this class-action suit is such a no-brainer that Mr/Ms Ruffin could just about draft it on their own, don’t you?

Susan - I’d like to look into that for you. Please reply with your address.

    S.R. Ruffin -

To post corrected facts about your home on Zillow, please click on “edit home facts” on your home’s detail and follow the step-by-step instructions.

The data we display and use for Zestimate purposes is part of the public record and is aggregated from your County’s assessor and recorder’s offices. This information can sometimes be out of date or incomplete and so owners can update those facts on Zillow. If you reply with your address, I’ll contact your County and investigate further.

Please note that the Zestimate value is a starting point, not the final word on house values.

Since your home is currently on the market, please use the tools on your home’s detail page to post it for sale on Zillow. When you do, your list price will replace the Zestimate value as the most prominent value in search results and on the detail page.

I’m sorry to hear that it’s taking a while to sell your home - most of the country is currently in a very tough real estate market. If you reply with your address, I’d be glad to offer advice about Zillow features you could use to better promote your home on our site.

    Kathy -

You should note that Zillow.com is the only site of its kind that facilitates corrections to public facts by owners. The public property records are incorrect more often than I had imagined - and so, we made it a priority to allow owners to set the record straight on Zillow. This system works well. We also have a tool for owners to calculate and publish a refined estimate based on their corrections - check out “My Estimator.”

David, I am weary. I have told you, over and over again, that my problem with the Zillow numbers is that they DO NOT REFLECT PUBLIC PROPERTY RECORDS.
The property at 669 Royal Drive, Bailey CO is worth just about exactly the same as the property at 715 Royal, according to the assessor. And, until the last 30 days, Zillow agreed. The property at 510 Royal has been falling steadily throughout the past year.
Within the last month, for some inexplicable reason, Zillow has given 715 an extraordinary $39,223 increase in value, given 510 a whopping $56,000 increase in value, and REDUCED our value $3,177!!! Did we have a fire we didn’t know about, or something?!

Hmmmm…..according to Zillow’s very own data, reported from the assessor’s figures, 715 is literally HALF the size of our home. And, alas, it’s in foreclosure. The fact 715 is STILL worth $30K more than ours according to Zillow is drawing down our value something fierce. And no, I’m not inclined to CORRECT information that I didn’t initiate in the first instance. It’s terribly unfair you would ask innocent homeowners to do this, IMHO.
