Seeing Site Outage? Hit CTRL + F5
By: Jeff Lubetkin, Senior Software Engineer | February 9, 2006
We hear some folks are still seeing site outage messages on Zillow.com. I’m told if you hit CTRL + F5, it will clear your cache and you will get access to the site again. Again, our apologies for this bumpiness and thanks for your patience!

Site is up (and useful), but am I the only one for whom FLASH isn’t working? (My Flash works on all other sites.)
Bill Nordwall on February 9, 2006 2:08 pm
What version of Flash are you using? Our site requires Flash 7.0 or higher. To upgrade visit Macromedia’s flash upgrade site:
http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/
Hope that helps.
Thanks,

I am using the flash that your flash link installs. As noted, when I go to the macromedia flash test page, all is well. Also, I can see graphs, etc., just not maps. It is likely a local problem having to do with company settings or whatnot… I’ll try it at home (on my mac’s firefox)

You may think you have fixed the problem, but after two days I still can’t get an zestimate to come up. It keeps telling me to refresh and try in a few seconds. It shows an “error on page” message. I did get it to work once yesterday 2/9/06 at 5:30am pst but not since. I wanted to make some changes to the home improvements done. I tried the ctrl F5 without resuilts.

I have been trying to do a search for 3 days, everytime i try I get the following error message:
“We’re sorry. We encountered a problem performing this search. Please wait a few seconds, then refresh the page or search again.”
Any suggestions? Ctrl F5 did not help.

This site does not work at all. I keep getting “please wait a few seconds, then refresh the page or search again”. So much for the hype. Are you still in beta testing because this site is a big disappoint and dud.

Hello, Diane from Zillow here…
I’m sorry to hear some folks are still having problems accessing the site. Here are a few things to try:
Clear your cache – If you’re using IE, go into Tools – Internet Options – then click “Delete Cookies,” “Delete Files” then OK.
If you’re using Firefox, click Tools – Options – then clear Cookies and Cache.
Then, close down the browser window and wait a few minutes.
Open your browser and try to get a Zestimate through Zillow.
Hope that works. Let me know. Thanks.

Why will this site not work for me? I can never get the map to come up on my computer. Is there a specific software program that I need to download? I know about the CTRL + F5 and clearing the cache, but none of that has helped. I’ve also followed the link provided regarding the flash update but to no avail. Please advise someone.

I too continue to get the error message: “We’re sorry. We encountered a problem performing this search. Please wait a few seconds, then refresh the page or search again.” I have been trying since the day it launched. I tried ctrl+f5 and tried deleting my cookies.
On thing I notice is that on the lower left hand side of the page it says “Done but with errors on page”. When I click into the error message it tells me that n line 898, character 3, the parameter is incorrect. ???

Does this site even work anymore? Never worked on my laptop, now it doesn’t work on my desk top. Still works on my wifes desktop. She has Flash 8. all the other computers are up to date with Flash 9. All are standard MS Internet Explorer ver 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519
Any Ideas?? I tried everything. Cache clear, reinstall Flash 9.

Steve,
It sounds like a networking or security configuration may be your problem. Are your computers behind a firewall? If so, is it configured to block vbscript? You will need to enable vbscript for our site. In case you don’t have access to your firewall config. (e.g. on a corporate network), try installing the firefox browser.
If you reply again, please register to comment using your e-mail address so that we can follow up and troubleshoot your problem.

I’m just about to give up on Zillow. The site used to work and now it keeps saying “This site requires Flash”. Like most everyone elses comment, Flash works perfect on every other site. I’ve done control+F5. Active scripting is enabled.

Steve S -
I’m sorry for your frustration. Someone form our support team will be following up with you via e-mail. It does sound as though some other software (an ad-blocker, firewall or similar security service) is causign a conflict with flash on your machine.

Just installed Flash Player 9.0. It is working on other Flash content but when I try to locate a home from zillow.com by entering an address and pressing Go, I encounter message saying I need to install latest Flash. I follow link back to Flash site where it tells me it is successfully installed (and I have rebooted after installation). Is there something else I need to check? I did clear cache. (Windows XP)
Brian on February 3, 2007 9:57 pm
After being unable to get past the message that I needed to download the latest Flash player, which I did several times, I uninstalled Flash 9 and searched the Adobe flash player sight for Flash Player 8. I found that Adobe offered downloads of older players for developers. I uninstalled Flash 9, restarted computer, downloaded and installed Flash 8 (22) and then the Zillow site allowed me to locate a property. It looks like Zillow needs to update their software to work with Flash 9 since that is where your link leads to.

I too can not view any zillow maps. It use to work fine a few months ago. Now no maps show at all. On my fathers PC in which he has both IE and firefox; the maps only show when viewed using Firefox. I use the Internet Security Suite by CA(Computer Associates). I just renewed in about 2 weeks ago. That is the only major change made to my PC recently. To fix this problem I open the firewall utility and disabled it momentarily and then it started working fine. I also cleared the cache using the firewall. IE tools and delete files etc. did not do it. Hope this helps. Believe me this was fustrating but I think this can resolve your problems if you do the above two things. BTW, I immediately re-enabled the firewall and zillow still worked fine.

Zillow must be having issues. I’m getting repeated error messages and have to reload pages multiple times. Maps are not popping. In addition, this new “algorithm” that Zillow is using to value the homes is WAY off.My house went down in value on Zillow by $8000 in 30 days. There are repeated complaints all over Zillow.City records show value closer to my Zestimate. Not sure what’s going on, but Zillow is “buggin” lately LOL.
