See Zillow in a whole new light! (Or, at least, in a new browser.) Firefox 3 is here!
By: Ryan Beesley, Software Design Engineer -- Test | June 17, 2008
Mozilla has released the latest version of their popular web browser, Firefox. Firefox 3 is available immediately: download it here. For the next day (until 6/18/2008 at 10:00am PDT), Mozilla will be trying to set a record for the largest number of software downloads in 24 hours - help them out!
Already a strong contender against Internet Explorer and Safari, this new release builds upon the success of the popular Firefox 2 browser. Claiming to be more secure, easier to use, and with increased performance, nearly everyone will find something to like in this browser.
And it’s good news in the Zillow test team; because of the high degree of compatibility between Firefox 2 and Firefox 3, we will immediately cease testing with Firefox 2 and validate our site’s Firefox compatibility on Firefox 3. And of course, we will continue to make other test passes with Internet Explorer and Safari to ensure that the vast majority of our users have the best possible experience no matter what they choose.
If you’re already using Firefox 2, I highly recommend upgrading to Firefox 3. If you currently use another browser, consider installing Firefox 3 as an alternative or even as a direct replacement.

Ken -
What is it exactly that you’d like to unsubscribe from? E-mail / the blog / what?

Street maps are not displaying correctly for me in Firefox 3 … I see the house icons and estimate figures against a blank white field, no graphic showing the streets. Thx for supporting Firefox.

Houses to either side of me are bigger and on larger parcels of land.
My home appears as $7,000 and $15,000 less than theirs.
My home has 12’ ceilings, crown moldings throughout and does not back onto lesser priced properties as they do.
WTF is wrong with Zillow’s zestimate?
I listed my house as “make me move”, removed it several months later, then suddenly my home drops below all my neighbors?????

forgot to mention my preoprty taxes are well above theirs and zillow has my home (top of a cul de sac with breathtaking views) so low. Even my real estate agent said ignore zillow, they use fuzzy logic to value homes. I agree!

You’re a software designer, so I ask you this technical question:
Is it true that one home can have 2 separate detail pages on zillow?
David G from Zillow.com on June 21, 2008 11:21 am
Oh, good grief, Joe. Are you really fact-checking me?
Ryan -
Joe’s questioning this comment which I left on his blog;
“When we get a listing in a feed, for which it is specified that the address may not be displayed, we create a second detail page for the home with only the listing information. The home does still have its normal home detail page on Zillow, there’s just no listing details on it.”
Joseph Ferrara.sellsius on June 21, 2008 5:40 pm
Good grief, it’s called research David.
For either Ryan or David:
If a broker sends a feed with addresses, do those homes also get a second detail page? Or is the second detail page limited to the broker feeds without addresses?
David G from Zillow.com on June 23, 2008 12:25 am
Joe - As I said above, we create a new detail page when we get a listing in a feed, for which it is specified that the address may not be displayed. This is obviously not the case with normal listings on Zillow which appear on the map with a link to their (permanent) detail page.
Joseph Ferrara.sellsius on June 23, 2008 9:40 am
Yes, I thought so. The address-less feed gets 2 pages and the one with addresses gets 1 (the permanent detail page)
>…we create a new detail page when we get a listing in a feed.
But isn’t it true a homeowner or agent who manually uploads a listing without a house number also gets a second page on zillow?
Unsubscriber = FOR GOD SAKE DO NOT REGISTER! on September 11, 2008 8:08 pm
I’m done unchecking boxes. I want the authorities to do something now. I want my Zillow account to be deleted. Not just unsubscribed.
If you get any spam at all, its because zillow sells your email address to big spam out lets.
Like anybody else, I want my Zillow account to be deleted too. But, Zillow has a reputation for tricking people into unsubscribing by getting them to register, and then, selling your email address to World Wide Web. You don’t have to be a Zillow member for them to do that. So unsubscribe all you want. They got what they wanted. A working email address. This is the most god offal group of people ever. Together we can defeat these bastards. UNSUBSCRIBE! UNSUBSCRIBE! UNSUBSCRIBE!
David Gibbons on September 12, 2008 8:50 am
Unsubscriber -
Please read up on Zillow’s privacy policy. We certainly don’t give or sell users’ e-mail addresses to anyone. I don’t know where you got that idea but regardless, you will definitely not receive any e-mail via your Zillow account - I’ve suspended it and deleted your e-mail address from our systems.
