Rent-a-Shelter

Looking for a place to flee to if bombs start dropping from the sky? How about a space for meditation? Or maybe a really quiet place to play your violin? Well, have we got the place for you!
Those are a few of the creative ideas offered in a West Seattle resident’s ad for renting out her home’s bomb shelter. Say what? Yes, you heard that right. A bomb shelter. According to the owner, her home has a very, uh, interesting feature:
“There is a 30 foot tunnel out the back wall of my basement into the hill behind my house, it goes to a bomb shelter (big room 12×12x12, small room 6×8x8) complete with escape hatch.”
While the place is a bit too Silence of the Lambs for my taste, the owner has received several offers from people wanting to actually live in the creepy quarters. Too bad for them, there’s no toilet or running water.
If you’d like to see more of the space, check out this video taken by local news station King 5.
