Quarterly Report Data — for Data Geeks and Techies

As you probably know, we released our 2007 quarterly report earlier this week. For those interested in doing analysis on the data, you can download all the raw data on a MSA-by-MSA basis straight from our quarterly reports page. However, while an MSA report is fine for reporters and bloggers covering specific markets, we realize data geeks and real estate techies might want — ALL the data in one spreadsheet. So, we made that a little easier by combining some of the primary data into one CSV file.

The columns in the CSV file are:

MSA name
Region name
Region type
Region ID
County (Largest city)
City
County name
Home type
Zindex
Quarter over quarter change
Year over year change
5 year annualized change
10 year annualized change

The one thing I really want to call out is that the addition of the region id (which is not in the MSA spreadsheets) should allow web developers to map a lot of the data using the GetRegionChildren API call and/or our neighborhood boundary files. So, let’s see some heatmaps!

If there is a desire for us to put more of the Q4 data, such as the homeowner equity data or Zindex numbers broken down by home type, into one CSV that covers the whole country, please leave a comment and we’ll try to accommodate the request.

Interesting chart, especially the comparative map, but I question how you arrive at your numbers. Looking at my market,Hoboken, NJ, I see that your ‘Zindex’ number for Q4 of ‘07 is at least 25K too low. I compare it to data from the Hudson County MLS, which skews low because it does not include new construction which is the pricier segment of our market. So the gap is probably even greater than 25K. If you’re pulling from the tax records, there shouldn’t be that much of a disparity since the MLS records closed sales just as the tax records do. Care to enlighten me?
