Post a Home for Sale and Increase Page Views 200 Times
By: Jeff Somers, Director, Agent Services | January 30, 2007
In case you missed the news, just a little over a month ago we launched the ability for listing agents and homeowners to post their home for sale on Zillow- for free. As we noted at that time, posting a home for sale on Zillow is an incredibly powerful (and easy) way to market properties. Zillow is one of the most-visited real estate sites in the country, and with between 3-4 million visitors every month, we offer the exposure you want for you and your listings.
Here’s a quick recap of what’s happened so far:
- We now have close to 30,000 homes posted for sale
- 65% of those homes have been posted by agents
- The average home posted for sale on Zillow gets a lot more people looking at it than a home that isn’t - about 200 times the amount of page traffic, to be exact
What does all this mean? Well, for starters, we’re off to a good start on adding homes for sale to Zillow (but we do have a way to go). Even more importantly, it means that those folks who have posted a home for sale are benefiting from a huge uptick on the amount of page traffic they’re getting. Potential clients are finding their new homes for sale right now on our site— even while you’re reading this!
So, what are you waiting for? Post your homes for sale today. If you haven’t done so already, leave us a comment as to why — we’d love to learn how we can make this service more attractive.

Hi Jeff-
Jeff Somers from Zillow here. When you say our mapping is out of date, do you mean that the home doesn’t appear on the map or appears in the wrong place or is there another issue? If the home is not in the correct position, you can correct the location of the home during the posting process (we let you tell us which house you’re posting for sale). I’m hoping that this may solve the problem, but let me know- we’d love to get you up on the site!

Neither of the addresses above (nor the 30 some-odd neighbors) appear on the map.

I think it is great that you are providing this service for free.

OK, I get it.
Even though the subdivisions in question don’t list all of the houses in Zillow. I can still put the properties for sale.
Any idea why these subdivisions (that are over 5 years old) don’t have all of the houses listed in Zillow?

I work for a real estate agent in Kansas. I was attempting to enter her listings on zillow.com and was dismay to find I had to enter a credit card for this free service or submit documentation for each listing. Wouldn’t it be more practical for an agent to provide their broker license number for identification purposes?

We would also like to use this service but find it doesn’t accommodate other serivces that have numerous listings. Are you planning an API for this service?

While I did add my home to your for sale listing, I am considering pulling it from your site due to the horribly innacurate Zestimate you show for my home.
You show a home almost identical AND NEXT DOOR to ours, giving it a value of some $266K, or around $90K over our home!
What does it take to get Zillow to update the data behind your Zestimate? An act of Congress?
I am aghast at the lack of accuracy in your estimated values. I discovered your data was horribly out of date, not showing an addition made to our home over 10 years ago. While you allow me to “update the data”, you then don’t update the Zestimate, which is so far off it should be conisdered a criminal offense to post it here. You have undermined the value of my property, but yet you want us to list our home for sale here?

How do we remove listings?
Your facts say our home was built 1869 BUT IT WAS BUILT IN 2002!!!
Mel on July 12, 2007 7:52 pm
1969, sorry, but it was built in 2002
Drew Meyers on July 13, 2007 9:07 am
Mel-
The issue you are describing is a known issue that we are working on fixing. The correct year should display correctly on your home details page even though it shows 1969 in the search results list.
Sorry for the trouble.

My boyfriend and I purchased a pre-sale of a condo that will be complete in late fall. We no longer think the condo is right for us and would like to sell the our unit at the price we paid for it. Is there any way to advertise it on Zillow? I tried to “claim” the unit but it doesn’t allow me too (presumably because we haven’t purchased it yet). However we do have a legal right to sell our pre-sale contract. Any thoughts on how we can advertise our unit on Zillow?
Thanks!
