No longer a Street of Dreams
By: Sarah Mann, Senior PR Specialist | March 3, 2008
Last August, I wrote a post about visiting the Street of Dreams, an open-to-the-public tour of new, multi-million dollar construction which attracts both those who can afford such homes, and for those of us who are simply there to drool. Some sad news about this community came in this morning, as 4 of the 5 homes were damaged, three burning to the ground due to suspected “domestic terrorism”. The damage, in total, is expected to be around $7 million. An organization named Earth Liberation Front is apparently taking credit for the damage inflicted on these homes, and according to news reports, it is likely due to some concerns around the development’s affect on the local environment, and the claims the builders made in creating these homes from “green” products.
Now while I am not fully immersed in the green movement, I do my share to pitch in where I can— I hardly ever drive, have been called a recycling fanatic by my friends on more than one occasion, I use florescent lightbulbs all around the house and am generally conscience of the decisions I make and the effect they will have on the environment. What I cannot relate to, however, is how this group is using the environment as an excuse to impart such damage— not only on the builders, but their insurance companies, the neighbors, the firefighters who risked their lives to put out the flames and yes… the environment itself. I can’t imagine what this level of smoke and damage does to an area, but my guess is it isn’t great.
It seems to me that there would have been a much better, more productive, and less damaging way to get their point across. It’s really just senseless.

I didn’t have to live on the Street of Dreams for the same situation to accure but I was at home and I did put fire out by myself.Fire Dept.was unavailable and Sheriff was temporarily talking nonsense about God and movies.I don’t live in my house no more cause I didn’t want to be part of sensless show but I have been part of other show where I got stopped on the street and taken in cause they didn’t believe that I’m who I am.One way or the other I have been part of some stupid show, it’s all true, that’s called real estate sales by Russia,Rusia,Rusia.Simply “we will teach you how it’s done with success in Russia”,even if you don’t want to participate we will teach you a lesson,we will even send our people to make sure you won’t get away.Question is where is Sheriff Department? Are they all praying to God from Russia and that’s it?

It’s a shame to see such a sense less act. If the “eco” terrorists were so concerned about the environment they wouldn’t have lit an acres worth of timbre on fire.

I cannot understand why these people would choose such horrible way to show their believes and opinions. They have no right to damage the property of other people, not to mention the consequences of this senseless action - not only damage to the private property but also, as you wrote, to the insurance company, neighbours, firefighters… I work for a realtor in Canada and as an agent and also as human being I am horrified by the act. I hope that simmiral situation never occurs here inneighbourhoods in Toronto>.
