More data on Zillow users
By: Amy Bohutinsky, Director of Communications | July 20, 2006
Last week we dug into some new stats from a recent survey of Zillow users. We found that the overwhelming majority (86%) are homeowners, and more than half of users are currently active in the real estate market or thinking about buying or selling in the next two years.
As our site is barely five months old, we were also curious how people were finding us. Nearly half of users (47%) say they heard about Zillow from a friend or acquaintance. That’s some pretty powerful word-of-mouth. (thank you!)
Meanwhile we also wondered what percentage of our users work in the real estate industry, versus our primary audience of consumer homeowners, buyers and sellers. What we found:
- 12% say they are real estate professionals. When asked their professional status, the majority of these respondents were either residential agents, mortgage lenders or residential brokers. We find this interesting given Broker in LA’s comments on our post last week.
- When asked their opinion of Zillow, close to 70% of these professionals rated their opinion of the site as “very” or “somewhat” favorable.
- And with 12% of users in the real estate industry, this means 88% of Zillow users are consumers not working in real estate.
Survey stats: 1,007 Zillow users took the survey on Zillow.com between May 22-27, 2006.
