Jingle Bells, Zillow-Style!
By: Diane Tuman, Content Manager | December 21, 2007
When Zillow’s Marketing Brand Director Mary Miller was finalizing details for the company’s holiday e-card that we traditionally send to business partners and friends of Zillow, she was asked by Jorrit Van der Meulen, VP of Partner Relations, who was going to sing the words that appeared on the card. Sing? SING?! Professional singers are expensive. “But, we HAVE to have someone sing,” said Jorrit. Seattle creative agency POP, who was designing the Flash card, suggested that maybe Zillow employees can do the singing. Zillow employees? So, the casting call went out to all of Zillow. Some people ran for the hills, some said they would do it “in a pinch,” but eventually, 9 hardy souls with various backgrounds of church choir, theater, YouTube riffing, and band backgrounds volunteered.
One rainy afternoon, the Hardy 9 broke loose early from work and arrived at Pure Audio to put voices to card. Pure Audio’s Steve guided the group through several straight renditions of “Zillow Bells” and then he really went to work, mixing in some improvisation that he also directed (“Need bits of laughter here,” “How about some shouts after this line,” and “Need chit-chat as you’re approaching the house”). All of it was blended, spliced, and diced electronically and the result is this fun, light-hearted Holiday Sing-a-long card.
So, we’re taking a few days off here for the holidays to be with family and friends and hope you do, too. See you on the other side of the 25th! Happy Holidays!

Jeff -
I know the folks pictured above look like professionals, but really, they’re employees. Don’t worry, this card didn’t break the bank.
Merry Christmas!
