Heatmaps - New and Improved!

By: Chloe Harford Director, Strategic Planning | September 22, 2006

CaliforniaThinking of relocating or just curious about what you could afford in different neighborhoods around your city, or even around the U.S.?    By popular demand, earlier this week we made dynamic heatmaps available.  Previously on our site you could view 17 separate, static heat maps for various cities.  Now, we’ve brought this feature (which shows Zestimates per square foot, or most expensive areas) to a new level, allowing you to easily move around a city, compare cities within a state, or pan out to see the entire country.

Is urban living important to you?  If so, in “red hot” San Francisco some neighborhoods show $600-$700 per square foot, which means that for $700,000, you’d be squeezing into a 1,000 square foot condo.  Drive across the Bay Bridge to Emeryville, and you could get another 500+ square feet for the same price range.   Or, try panning out and scrolling down the California coast for a reality check on waterfront property statewide.  Ready to move?  “Cool blue” Cleveland shows lakefront property between $50-$100 a square foot.

You can find these new dynamic maps on our heatmap page, or by entering any city and state in the search box, then clicking “show heat map” at the top.

(By the way, a few of you beat us to the punch by finding our heatmaps the day they launched - in fact, more than a few of you — we’ve logged more than 70,000 heat map page views in just these first few days!
Thanks for your feedback, and let us know your suggestions on how we can add to or improve.)
