Do you believe in ghosts?

In honor of the spookiest day of the year, I thought I would use this opportunity to round up some of the creepiest haunts in the country.

First, we have Zillow’s own roundup of famous scary homes. These homes played an important role in some of the scariest movies and TV shows of all time, including Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street. Could you sleep easy in one of these homes? One, two, Freddy’s coming for you…

Second, check out the infamous Winchester House in San Jose, Calif. This 160-room Victorian mansion contains some of the strangest features, including stairs that lead straight to the ceiling, doors that lead to nowhere, and an infamous seance room, which the original owner created in order to communicate with the dead. Though there is no home data on Zillow (the house is now a historical landmark and not considered residential real estate), you can still get a pretty cool Bird’s Eye View of the home on Zillow (winchester.jpg).

Next up, we have the White House. Visitors and employees of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue have reported lights turning on and off by themselves, doors suddenly closing and even apparitions of President Lincoln, Abigail Adams and Dolley Madison, to name a few.

Last, but certainly not least is our very own Pike Place Market here in Seattle. While not actually a home, I thought it deserved to be mentioned, as it’s considered to be the most haunted place in Seattle, if not in all of Washington state. According to legend, the most famous ghost in the Market is Princess Angeline, the eldest daughter of Chief Seattle. Princess Angeline lived in the city until her death in 1896… and apparently even then she wasn’t ready to leave. She is often spotted at the Market, which was built over the site of her former home.

I have somewhat of a fascination with the paranormal, but apparently I’m not the only one with ghosts on the brain this time of year. Several threads in Zillow Discussions have mentioned ghosts and haunted houses too.

Happy Halloween!

These kind of halloween stories are great, it’s always fun to see if you are living close to a haunted house! =)
There’s also an article about how places used in horror movies are being regarded as haunted, like that house from “The Exorcist.”

The Exorcist! Why not, when neighbour tells you this is the only thing to do to sell the house why not to hire one or turn yourself into one.Talking from my own experience it’s better to hire one cause becoming one is very painful and your nieighbour is not going to be pleased since he wanted to help friend to make some money on the side.
