Celebrity Homes News of the Week: Paris and Britney

I have a guilty confession to make— the PR department here at Zillow is obsessed with celebrity gossip blogs.  On occasion, this news focuses on the real estate updates of the rich & famous (which technically makes this research, right?), and this week a few headlines caught our eyes that we just couldn’t pass up sharing with our readers.  It is Friday, after all!

Unless you have been living in a cave, most of you are likely aware that Paris Hilton has been released from jail after only serving 3 days of her sentence, due to undisclosed "medical issues."  Check out where she may now be serving the remainder of her time.  Just a slight upgrade from the Century Regional Detention Facility, don’t you think?  The home is by far the most viewed on Zillow this month, with over 25,000 views in the last 8 days alone.  BREAKING NEWS: According to latest developments, she may be heading back to jail after all!  Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton (not to be confused with our favorite inmate of a similar name), has been giving play-by-play updates on his blog.

In other news, the Malibu mansion formerly occupied by Britney Spears and Kevin Federline has been sitting on the market since November, despite a recent price drop, according to US Weekly. Rumor has it, the gated estate was too overly-customized to Mr. and Mrs. Spears’ lavish tastes. We all want our homes to reflect our personal style.  But perhaps a bar in every room was too over-the-top for the average potential buyer in that price range — not to mention the lavish poolside bar built over which once was the tennis court (reportedly, this turned off potential buyer and Tennis Channel founder Steve Bellamy).  Maybe Brit and K-Fed should have hired a stager to make the estate more widely appealing.  Or maybe they should have used MyEstimator to calculate how the renovations would affect the value of their home.  Whatever the case, it’s clear that even celebrities need to consider resale value when deciding to remodel.
