Celebrity Foreclosures
By: Diane Tuman, Content Manager | June 6, 2008
We can’t ignore it any longer: celebrities are taking the foreclosure hit, too. The latest celebrity is former heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield. A legal notice that appeared in a local newspaper shows his Fayette County, GA estate is under foreclosure. The 104-room, 54,000-square-foot home worth an estimated $10 million and is to be auctioned by a bank on July 1.
Luxist has even created a celebrity foreclosure list with a great little foreclosure slideshow of the affected celebs, which includes Jose Canseco (Jose Canseco’s home), Aretha Franklin, Latrell Sprewell, Michael Jackson, and others. L.A. Land has their own list of celebrity foreclosures, too. Earlier this week, Johnny Carson’s sidekick, Ed McMahon commanded the headlines (here is Ed McMahon’s home). Who’s next?
Update:
6/18/08: Shaq wants to help foreclosure victims
6/23/08: Dallas Cowboys’ ‘Pacman’ Jones and former NBA star Vin Baker in foreclosure trouble.
6/26/08: Ernestine Anderson in foreclosure trouble
7/10/08: Evander Ducks Foreclosure Punch
8/15/08: Trump Rescuing McMahon’s Home
8/20/08: Record Producer Damon Dash faces foreclosure

Even them can lose their house. What will happen to us? We have to start understand how to face foreclosure before it happen to us.
Dale "Short Sale" Kirkland on August 18, 2008 5:44 pm
Well, it just goes to show you that it can happen to anyone. What is worse is that most people think they can work their way out of any problem, instead of preparing for these life events.

Celebrities in foreclosure? Sorry, but “wah.” (Sarcastic). Most of the people on that list made terrible decisions. Holyfield was making $30 million a fight. Don’t cry for him Argentina (or America).
Bottom line, it is the average homeowner who suffers because prices, for example, in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, swung so wildly that the lows are so irrational. Thus, foreclosure becomes an option for those who would never go bankrupt or whatever.
