Bi-Coastal Celebs: Stars Who Live in Los Angeles and New York
To be certain, not just any star can be bi-coastal, but we have quite a few who call both sides of the country home.
Jennifer Aniston made waves when she declared that she was moving to New York. She listed her custom home and bought two units in the coveted prewar Bing & Bing building with plans to turn them into a duplex. The recently engaged actress grew up in New York City and told “Good Morning America” that she missed being in the Big Apple.
However, it wasn’t too soon after that she returned to the California sunshine, buying an A. Quincy Jones-designed home, above, with beau Justin Theroux. This doesn’t mean she’s done with the Big Apple; Aniston still owns the units in the West Village, as well as another condo in Gramercy Park.
Katie Holmes also lays stake on both coasts, but the actress has long favored New York over Los Angeles. While married to Tom Cruise, Holmes had a huge collection of properties. The two shared an enormous home in Beverly Hills, which Cruise bought for $30.5 million, as well as a Greenwich Village townhouse and properties in Telluride, CO, Hollywood Hills and Montecito, CA.
In the divorce, Holmes is apparently picking up the Montecito property, but it looks like she’s firmly planted on the East Coast for now, having moved into a new apartment in the Chelsea Mercantile on Seventh Avenue.
The real question is where doesn’t Kelsey Grammer live? The star of the new show “Boss” has one of the biggest real estate collections of any star with properties that crisscross the country, including, of course, places in both L.A. and New York.
In the midst of his divorce from ex-wife Camille Grammer, Kelsey bought a new apartment on Eleventh Avenue for he and his new lady Katye Walsh. The transaction was supposed to be top secret, but like most celebrity real estate news, it leaked out.
Kelsey still owns several properties in Cali, even though in recent years he has dumped quite a few. He also recently purchased a Beverly Hills home for $6.5 million.
The longtime New York renter recently made the jump to Los Angeles this summer, buying a $15 million home in Pacific Palisades. In 2010, the actor embarked on a very serious hunt to find a new place. Curbed reported the “Bourne” trilogy star was looking in the “$12 million range” on the Upper West Side, but it looks like he never lucked out. (Stars, they have real estate struggles, just like us!) Perhaps that’s what drove him to pack up the family and head out West.
Damon’s new home in Pacific Palisades has everything that a co-op in New York can’t offer — an outdoor pool, plenty of grassy lawn and Ben Affleck for a neighbor.
Newly hitched Justin Timberlake can bring his bride Jessica Biel back from Italy to either coast. The singer-actor-”SNL” regular owns in both L.A. and New York. Timberlake first bought a place in New York’s Pearline Soap Factory building, but reportedly grew tired of the paparazzi and in late 2010, snagged a new place in the SoHo for $6.567 million, according to property records. The 2,607-square-foot condo has modern features and spectacular downtown views.
Timberlake doesn’t spend as much time on the West Coast, but when he does, he’s hanging out at the Hollywood Hills home that he purchased from actress Helen Hunt for $8.3 million in 2002. The 13,530-square-foot estate has 6 bedrooms and 10 baths.
