He directed “Batman Forever,” but his California compound wasn’t as enduring. Joel Schumacher has hoisted his 7-acre compound on the Carpinteria market for $9.45 million. According to The Wall Street Journal, Schumacher is selling because he doesn’t spend as much time at the estate as he used to.
Schumacher designed the four-parcel compound in 2000, creating a rustic estate filled with art and unique finishes, such as reclaimed barn wood. Previously featured in Architectural Digest, the home at 7455 Shepard Mesa Rd., Carpinteria CA 93013 is made up of four separate buildings, spanning 6,500 square feet in all.
Perched in the hills just outside Santa Barbara, the retreat is intensely private, surrounded by mature landscaping and ocean and mountain views. Outside, the property has an infinity pool, patios and walking trails.
Schumacher is best known for his work on “Batman Forever,” but he has several top films under his belt, including ’80s “brat pack” contribution “St. Elmo’s Fire,” teen horror classic “The Lost Boys,” the dark hit “8MM” and musical adaptation “Phantom of the Opera.”
According to current mortgage rates, a monthly payment on Schumacher’s house would be $33,489, assuming a 20 percent down payment on a 30-year fixed mortgage.
