House of the Week: Colorful Estate in Agoura Hills (VIDEO)
2401 Kanan Rd, Agoura CA
For sale: $1,949,000
Many homes are called “one-of-a-kind,” but this real estate listing catchphrase is often applied to undeserving properties, despite their million-dollar price tags.
While many of those homes can boast a unique floor plan or interesting use of materials, few compare to this colorful Californian in Agoura Hills; this home truly rates as one of a kind.
A riot of color and varying textures, the Agoura estate was the masterpiece of a local architect, says listing agent David McLaughlin.
“They wanted something unique,” explained McLaughlin. “Every room looks like a different time period.”
The home features an open floor plan — the main floor alone is 6,500 square feet, containing the master bedroom, living area and kitchen.
“It’s like living in a really cool warehouse divvied up by different lines and art pieces,” McLaughlin said about the 5-bedroom, 5.5-bathroom home.
The homeowners intentionally designed the property to be a work of art, incorporating several different home styles. Mission-style, Aztec-influenced and a modern “23rd Century” are the most prevalent, McLaughlin said.
“They play with materials,” added group coordinator Laurie De Jesus. “Even the actual structure is artwork; everything is a piece of art.”
Despite the unique aesthetics of the home, the property is very liveable. Each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom, and the master bath contains a glass-walled shower that opens up to the outside lawn. But no need to worry about peeping Toms. McLaughlin assures that the home is incredibly private.
An infinity pool and abstract waterfall sculpture round out the rest of the 4.5 acre property.
According to the Zillow mortgage calculator, a monthly payment on the home would be $7,010, assuming a 20 percent down payment on a 30-year-fixed mortgage.
