Attention Data Geeks: “Zillow Real Estate Research” is Here!

As any regular follower of Zillow Blog knows, Zillow has delved deep into real estate research since our launch in 2006. We have our own housing index, with home value information down to the ZIP code, and a team dedicated to furthering our study of the market. We do monthly data reports, along with extremely in-depth analysis quarterly reports and occasional analysis on topics like foreclosures and housing supply.

And now, we have a dedicated section on Zillow to house all of that analysis: Zillow Real Estate Research. We’ll be posting in-depth briefs, and there will be a blog where team members can make sense of the latest housing news or offer insight via on-camera analysis from Zillow Chief Economist Stan Humphries.

Not sure where Zillow’s estimated #’s come from, but the site is showing my home at $10,000 less than the house next door at is smaller, no extra amenities and the front and back yards are a mess. Would hate to see what the inside looks like. This house has been on and off the market and is now in foreclosure/auction status.

My home is larger and in very nice condition w/new tile roof, windows and wood floors. “CONFUSED!”

Tracy: First thing, make sure all your home facts are correct. You can claim your home and update them — if details from public records like square footage or number of bedrooms and bathrooms are off, this can affect your Zestimate. You can also create and publish and Owner’s Estimate, where you can add details about some of the extra amenities in your house.

Thanks! We actually do have RSS feed options on the briefs page and the blog page (they’re two separate feeds). We’ll work toward getting this on the main research page so it’s more obvious – you’re not the only one who has asked me about this.

This is a very exciting addition to Zillow. I enjoy checking your statistics on home values in my area. I don’t always agree but I still check the values.

John – An update on RSS feeds. We realized there was an issue on the back end, but it’s been fixed, and now you can subscribe to both the briefs and blog posts on either of those pages.
